Do you have a lot of great images but are unsure how to create a series or themed body of work?
Are you working on a portfolio and need feedback on your progress so far?
The 'Building a Portfolio' course is designed to help you create, edit, refine and talk about your fine art portfolio.
Through lectures, discussions and individual portfolio reviews you will learn techniques and tips to help improve existing bodies of work and also how to tackle new projects.
You will learn how to talk about your work, write artist statements and create your unique style. We will discuss printed portfolios and web portfolios.
Each student will be required to bring printed images to discuss. These images can be printed at 4x6, 8x10 or larger (if available).
This will be a very interactive class.
Session 1:
Lecture: Introduction to fine art portfolios: lengths, subject matter, examples of pro portfolios, themes, styles etc.
Session 2:
Discussion: Editing. How to edit based on technical/aesthetic level. Building upon images, improving your portfolio, sequencing, adding new images. How to present a portfolio.
Session 3:
Review and discussion of student work.
Session 4:
Review and discussion of student work.
Session 5:
Discussion: Print and Web portfolios. Designing your web portfolio and printing your hard copy.
Session 6:
Artist Statements. Why they are important. How to write them. Examples given.
Session 7:
Review, discussion and presentation of student portfolios.
Session 8:
Review, discussion and presentation of student portfolios.
Level:
Intermediate.
Enrollment:
Maximum 14 participants.
Equipment Needed:
Printed work from each student. Sizes can be 4x6 or 8x10 or larger (if available).

Early-Bird Discount:
A 10% discount is applied automatically if you register before the Early-Bird Discount deadline date listed in the registration table below.
CAPIC & PPABC Members:
A 5% discount is available to CAPIC and PPABC members when registering online. Please be prepared to show your membership cards on the first day of your workshop.
Group Discount:
A 5% discount will be appplied if 3 or more people register at the same time for the same workshop. (All 3 tuitions must be paid for by one credit card to be considered a group registration.) Please follow the instructions on the online registration page.
In order to provide the best learning environment possible VPW keeps class sizes limited to 12-15 people (depending on the workshop). This is but one reason that we count on you to attend your chosen class, once you have registered for it.
If you must withdraw for any reason please be aware of our refund policy as follows:
For our local workshops, 1 to 5 days in length and our Local 10 Week Courses, VPW requires 15 days written notice (before the workshop start date) of your withdrawal in order to provide a refund. (Email notice is acceptable.)
If you wish to transfer to a different workshop date VPW requires 7 days written notice.
