Update: Only 3 more seats available!

Vancouver Photo Workshops proudly presents an intensive 3 day workshop, "Finding Your Digital Identity" with internationally acclaimed photographer Ralph Gibson.

This will be the 6th Workshop that VPW has hosted with Ralph, and its shaping up to be the most exclusive and relevant yet. Participation is limited to only 8 students.

In recent years, Ralph has hosted less than 1 workshop per year.

Set in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand your visual horizons under the guidance of one of the great masters in contemporary photography.

Workshop Description provided by Ralph Gibson:

Lazlo Moholy Nagy stated in "Ein Album Photographischer Metaphern":"the illiterate of the future will be the person ignorant of the use of the camera as well as the pen"

These words were written long ago and little did he anticipate the truth they were to deliver.

However with today's mass ability to create imagery comes a subsequent anonymity which results in all the imagery looking basically the same...unified and distilled into the broadest common denominator.

All great photographers establish their individual visual signature to their work and their images are instantly recognizable.

How is this visual individuality imparted to the image and wherein lie the sources of this personal uniqueness?

The answer lies in a protracted study of the photographers work to date and his approach to subsequent images. It is a process that can be identified and structured.

This three day workshop will examine these issues. Thinking visually is as important as seeing visually.

Please come prepared with a minimum of 8 images from your previous work. Prints are preferred, but Mr. Gibson will also be able to view and critique digital images (jpg foprmat preferred).

In previous workshops, students have raved about their experience with Mr. Gibson, calling the workshop "...a life changing experience".

This workshop is open to both film and digital photographers shooting in black and white and/or color. It is suitable for all experience levels.
