These are only a few of the many important questions faced by photographers today who are interested in entering into the booming stock photography market.
Join instructor Kaj R. Svensson for this fun and informative 10 Week 30 hour course. Kaj has many years experience in both owning a stock agency and also shooting for the stock market locally and internationally, so there will be no unanswered questions.
Session 1 :
Introduction –what is stock photography? Brief history of the industry
from the past to present and current status. The skill level of pro shooters
in the stock industry. We will discuss traditional compositional (handout)
strategies and how the rules might be "broken" or modified when shooting
for stock.
Session 2 :
Equipment (cameras, lenses, tripods, light tables, loupes etc). Use of
digital capture versus shooting on various film formats?
Session 3 :
The Stock Market - a very large worldwide market encompassing 2 basic
areas – Editorial and Commercial.
Session 4:
How do we shoot for the stock market? Understanding the product.
Shooting for more than one market at a time.
Session 5 :
Field trip – students will shoot a small series of images based upon "stock
usage" parameters.
Session 6:
Class review of field trip images. Getting your images organized.
Creating "File Info" (Metadata and Keywords) for digital images and labels
for 35mm color slides and transparencies. Scanning transparencies
Session 7 :
Copyright, Image Rights and Negotiations. Rights managed images
versus Royalty Free images.
Session 8 :
Finding the customers – self-marketing. Surfing stock photo websites.
Public libraries. Writing letters of introduction. Creating promotional discs,
etc.
Session 9 :
Finding a Stock Photography Agency to represent your work.
Session 10:
Class review of final assignments.
Level:
Beginner/General Interest. No previous photography experience required.
Enrollment:
Maximum 15 participants.

Pen and paper.

A 10% discount is applied automatically if you register before the Early-Bird Discount deadline date listed in the registration table below.
CAPIC & PPABC Members:
A 5% discount is available to CAPIC and PPABC members when registering online. Please be prepared to show your membership cards on the first day of your workshop.
Group Discount:
A 5% discount will be appplied if 3 or more people register at the same time for the same workshop. (All 3 tuitions must be paid for by one credit card to be considered a group registration.) Please follow the instructions on the online registration page.
In order to provide the best learning environment possible VPW keeps class sizes limited to 12-15 people (depending on the workshop). This is but one reason that we count on you to attend your chosen class, once you have registered for it.
If you must withdraw for any reason please be aware of our refund policy as follows:
For our local workshops, 1 to 5 days in length and our Local 10 Week Courses, VPW requires 15 days written notice (before the workshop start date) of your withdrawal in order to provide a refund. (Email notice is acceptable.)
If you wish to transfer to a different workshop date VPW requires 7 days written notice.
