Lighting is one of the most important characteristics that you can use to stand out in today's market place. This course is designed to provide you with as much hands-on shooting time as possible. In fact 7 out of the 10 scheduled classes will be spent shooting.

You will be working with some of the latest lighting equipment, in studio as well as on-location. In addition to covering relevant technical concepts, this course is designed to deepen your understanding of how to work with talent, come up with great poses, improve your composition skills (especially when working on location) and develop concepts that will result in impressive images.

Get your creative juices flowing and be prepared for lots of shooting. You will be able to complete a portfolio by the end of the 10 weeks.

This course will feature guest appearances from many VPW instructors. You are going to be exposed to as many different ways of 'doing it' as possible. The aim is to have you draw inspiration from more than just one 'source'. Your lead instructors will be Wayne Hoecherl and Marc Koegel, guest appearances will be confirmed upon the start of the course.

You are encouraged to share your inspirations throughout this course. Bring in tear sheets and connect with us and your fellow classmates using VPW's new online forum and image sharing galleries. This course is designed to get your photography to the next level!

About Our Studio:

VPW prides itself on the selection, quality and amount of lighting equipment made available to our students. Learn using equipment that is actually being used in the industry today. Along with regular lighting sources we also have specialty pro equipment like ring-flashes, high powered battery strobes, 7 foot Octabanks, etc.

What is more, our new studio facilities provide an unparalleled commercial photography space for our students to shoot in. Our main studio offers 2500 square feet with 20 foot high ceilings along with an additional 2500 square feet of make-up, kitchen, and lounge space.

As we are a commercial production studio and a teaching facility we are able to provide a top of the line experience for all our students.

Course and assignment overview.
Review of studio and location lighting principles. Goals set for the course.

The Editorial Portrait: Shoot in studio

Session 5 :

Review and critique of previous shoots and assignments. Guest speakers (Make-up, Hair and Styling). Lecture and Discussion on what is takes to put together a full scale professional fashion shoot.

Fashion Shoot in studio

Session 7 :

Fashion Shoot on location

Session 8 :

Open studio time session 1: Students bring tear sheets and work on assignments with an instructor present to help realize each shoot.

Session 9 :

Open studio time session 2: Students bring tear sheets and work on assignments with an instructor present to help realize each shoot.

Session 10:

Final review and critique of student work created throughout the course.

Level:

Intermediate/Advanced. Prior experience using studio strobes. Our one-day studio lighting workshop or 10 week Practical Lighting Course would be sufficient.

Enrollment:

Maximum 14 participants.

Equipment Needed:

Bring your camera (must have manual controls) and at least 1 lens.
Optional: additional lenses, camera flash, tripod and laptop.

We Provide:

Detailed course notes in binder.
All lighting equipment and professional models when shooting in a professional studio/location setting as part of this course.

Early-Bird Discount:

A 10% discount is applied automatically if you register before the Early-Bird Discount deadline date listed in the registration table below.

CAPIC & PPABC Members:

A 5% discount is available to CAPIC and PPABC members when registering online. Please be prepared to show your membership cards on the first day of your workshop.

Group Discount:

A 5% discount will be appplied if 3 or more people register at the same time for the same workshop. (All 3 tuitions must be paid for by one credit card to be considered a group registration.) Please follow the instructions on the online registration page.

In order to provide the best learning environment possible VPW keeps class sizes limited to 12-15 people (depending on the workshop). This is but one reason that we count on you to attend your chosen class, once you have registered for it.

If you must withdraw for any reason please be aware of our refund policy as follows:

For our local workshops, 1 to 5 days in length and our Local 10 Week Courses, VPW requires 15 days written notice (before the workshop start date) of your withdrawal in order to provide a refund. (Email notice is acceptable.)

If you wish to transfer to a different workshop date VPW requires 7 days written notice.
