
** Olympics Scheduling**
Please note: All our 10 Week classes starting in January will have a two week break Feb. 12th-28th to accommodate the 2010 Olympics. Classes will resume March 1st.
This 10 week 30 hour course introduces you to the specialized techniques of architectural photography both interior and exterior.
Equipment selection and performance review, location scouting and selection, photographic styles and creative approaches as well as business aspects will be covered in this 10 week 30 hour course.
Students will be shown (and have an opportunity to use) a variety of specialized equipment including large format cameras and tilt/shift lenses for digital camera's.
Emphasis will be placed on shooting demonstrations on-location both indoors and outdoors. A list of locations will be distributed and discussed with all students at the beginning of the course.
Assignments will include a student self-study project focusing on both an indoor and outdoor location.
Session 1 :
Course and assignment overview.
Discussion about Architectural Photography and evaluation of predominant architectural photographer's portfolios.
Session 2 :
Photographing exteriors, discussion on perspective, angle of view, various types of equipment (4 x 5, tilt-and-shift lenses, portable flash, etc).
Session 3 :
Field trip with instructor to shoot exteriors of local building (Vancouver Public Library or Museum of Anthropology).
Session 4:
In-class review of field trip images from Class 3. Discussion on shooting exterior details, shooting at night, lighting techniques and shooting stitched images in order to compete with 4" x 5" shooters.
Session 5 :
Field trip with instructor to shoot exteriors and details of local building (the new Vancouver Trade and Convention Center).
Session 6 :
In-class review of field trip images from Class 5. Discussion on shooting and lighting for interior architectural photography.
Session 7 :
Field trip to shoot interior of local hotel lobby or restaurant.
Session 8 :
In-class review of field trip images from Class 7. Discussion on 4" x 5" cameras and lenses, shooting architectural and engineering scale models.
Session 9 :
Business practices, permits, licensing, insurance and promotional devices.
Session 10:
Final critique and wrap up. Review of students assignments and images created throughout the course.
Level:
Intermediate/Advanced. Must be comfortable with personal camera operation and have a full understanding of basic photography techniques and terminology.
Enrollment:
Maximum 14 participants.
Equipment Needed:
Bring your camera (must have manual controls) and at least 1 lens.
Optional: additional lenses, camera flash and tripod.
We Provide:
Detailed course notes in binder.
All lighting equipment when shooting in a professional setting as part of this course.
Early-Bird Discount:
A 10% discount is applied automatically if you register before the Early-Bird Discount deadline date listed in the registration table below.
CAPIC & PPABC Members:
A 5% discount is available to CAPIC and PPABC members when registering online. Please be prepared to show your membership cards on the first day of your workshop.
Group Discount:
A 5% discount will be appplied if 3 or more people register at the same time for the same workshop. (All 3 tuitions must be paid for by one credit card to be considered a group registration.) Please follow the instructions on the online registration page.
In order to provide the best learning environment possible VPW keeps class sizes limited to 12-15 people (depending on the workshop). This is but one reason that we count on you to attend your chosen class, once you have registered for it.
If you must withdraw for any reason please be aware of our refund policy as follows:
For our local workshops, 1 to 5 days in length and our Local 10 Week Courses, VPW requires 15 days written notice (before the workshop start date) of your withdrawal in order to provide a refund. (Email notice is acceptable.)
If you wish to transfer to a different workshop date VPW requires 7 days written notice.
