Vancouver Photo Workshops proudly presents a three day hands-on workshop,"From RAW to Lightroom to Photoshop to Print" with internationally renowned digital imaging specialist Andrew Rodney. In 2007, Andrew was inducted into the NAPP Photoshop Hall of Fame!

Set in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, this workshop is designed specifically for digital photographers or film photographers who use a digital post processing workflow.

This workshop imparts a thorough understanding of Raw processing through Adobe Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 to final output, with emphasis on best practices and color management.

The workshop will include an introduction to color management and color theory then move on to the proper color settings for Photoshop and Lightroom all the way to final output.

Also covered are image organizing strategies in Lightroom, proper exposure techniques for capturing Raw data and a thorough demonstration of when to use the appropriate toolsets in both Lightroom and Photoshop.

Hands-on demonstrations will cover device calibration and profiling of display and various output devices. The workshop emphasizes an entire workflow approach from Raw capture to output using best practices resulting in the minimum of time and fuss.

* How to capture the best Raw data
* The power of parametric editing
* Lightroom from A to Z and when to move into Photoshop CS5
* Archiving, Image Ingestion, and organization strategies using Lightroom
* What is CMS and why do we need it? Color theory for Photographers
* Configuring Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom Color Settings for optimal quality
* Hands on monitor calibration and printer profiling
* Using the new DNG profile editor
* Soft proofing, converting for output, and optimizing for final print output
* Sharpening workflow from capture to print
* Optimal color to B&W conversions
* Printing for fine art on an Epson printers
* Best practices for file exchange with printers and designers and outside labs
* Product review (packages and hardware for profiling different devices, white balance tools, 3rd party plug-ins).

Workshop participants are encouraged to bring digital cameras that can produce a Raw file so images can be processed in Lightroom, finessed in Photoshop, then color-managed for final reproduction. Please bring a card reader to download your images. Or, you can bring a collection of your Raw image files to practice importing and organizing your files into Lightroom.

It is recommended that participants bring their own Laptop computer for this workshop (Mac or PC). Please have Adobe Lightroom 2 or 3 and Photoshop CS3, CS4 or CS5 installed. A fully functional (30 day trial) version of Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 can be downloaded for free from www.adobe.com.

If you do not have access to a computer, you can rent one from VPW. The rental charge is $100 for the workshop, and you can select this option when you register.

Andrew Rodney, aka the Digital Dog, has successfully provided services and training to photographers, designers, print shops, government agencies, as well as fortune 1000 companies since 1993.

Andrew has written in the following publications: PDN, Publish, Photoshop User, Digital Photo Pro, Electronic Publishing, Digital Output, MacWeek, and Professional Photographer. Andrew is the author of "Color Management for Photographers, Hands on Techniques for Photoshop Users" published by Focal Press.He lectures around the country on many aspects of digital imaging and color management. The Digital Dog is devoted to the understanding and adoption of color management.

Andrew has been a Beta tester for Adobe Photoshop since version 2.5. and is currently an Alpha tester for Adobe Systems. Andrew is one of the principle partners of Pixel Genius LLC, a company that has created such products as PhotoKit and PhotoKit-Sharpener (http://www.pixelgenius.com/index.html). Andrew was named a "Top 40 Photoshop Expert" by Wacom Technologies.

Pre-Requisites

Level:

Basic photography knowledge required.

A basic working knowledge of Lightroom and Photoshop.

Enrollment:

Maximum 16 participants.

What to Bring

You should bring a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera that is capable of shooting Raw format. Don’t forget memory cards, spare batteries and card readers.

Bring a notebook and lots of enthusiasm. And come well rested too!

Early-Bird Discount:

A 10% discount is applied automatically if you register before the Early-Bird Discount deadline date listed in the registration table below.

CAPIC & PPABC Members:

A 5% discount is available to CAPIC and PPABC members when registering online. Please be prepared to show your membership cards on the first day of your workshop.

Group Discount:

A 5% discount will be appplied if 3 or more people register at the same time for the same workshop. (All 3 tuitions must be paid for by one credit card to be considered a group registration.) Please follow the instructions on the online registration page.

Refunds

In order to provide the best learning environment possible VPW keeps class sizes limited to 12-15 people (depending on the workshop). This is but one reason that we count on you to attend your chosen class, once you have registered for it.

If you must withdraw for any reason please be aware of our refund policy as follows:

For our Master Photographer Series workshops, 1 to 5 days in length, VPW requires 30 days written notice (before the workshop start date) of your withdrawal in order to provide a refund. VPW may retain 15% of fees paid or $150 minimum in processing your refund. If the tuition is less than $500 the minimum fee drops to $75.

Within 30 days of the Master Photographer Series workshop date all fees paid are non-refundable.
