Genus of Photography Workshop Image

Are you unsure of the artistic direction of your photography? Do you need inspiration or motivation to create a personal style of your own?

Many artists look to the past in order to build their creative vision. By studying the Masters and exploring the unique emotive and compositional qualities of their famous photographs you will begin to 'see' in a new light.

The Accidental Masterpiece will introduce you to the history and industry of photography in a fun and interactive way.

The course will use videos, slideshows, field trips and discussions to outline important photographers, key movements and industry changing photographs.

Class time will be split watching videos and discussing photography as both art and science using examples from the masters to illustrate compositions, themes and styles.

We will travel to a local commercial art gallery and to the Vancouver Art Gallery where we will have a tour of the well stocked library and other resources available for visual inspiration.

Two classes will be set aside to show and discuss the personal work of students. The first will function as an introduction to each students body of work and the second (scheduled as the last class) will show whether the course has influenced your photographic direction or shooting style.
