New! Super Saturday Fashion Photography Workshop:

"This has been the best photography course I
have ever taken - thank you VPW for keeping the class
size small, instructors are the best in the City and we
worked with true professional equipment."
Join Instructor Syx Langemann for his latest workshop centered
arround the magical world of Fashion Photography. These workshops are famous for their hands-on focus and Syx offers his students creative opportunities to built diverse portfolios of their own in a matter of a few short weeks.
This Series of full day shoots are designed to give each photographer time to work with a dedicated team (makeup, hair, stylist, model) to produce some outstanding fashion images. Students will be required to work well within a team environment as well as push their photographic skill set. The Teams will be organized by John Casablanca's, and the day of shooting will take place at John Casablanca’s teaching facility.
Check out the feedback Syx received for his last Workshop:
This class is a dream come true for anyone interested in Fashion Photography. You get hands on training in real time. It takes you outside of the classroom and puts you in the middle of the action. Working in a professional team enviornment with models, makeup, hair artists and stylists gives you the unique perspective of what fashion photography is all about. Syx is an amazing instructor and noted fashion photographer. Working with him is a must if your thinking about entering the fashion arena. After taking this class with Syx four times, I can tell you that this unique class should not be missed.

Detailed
Course Outline and Agenda:
Introduction, 2pm-5pm (Wednesday before shoot) Meet at VPW studio, 1304 Seymour St, Downtown VancouverDiscuss the structure of the Super Saturday Fashion Workshop, equipment, film etc.
Meet your Team @ John Casablancas, 5:30-6:30pm
This will also be an opportunity for you to meet with all the members of your team to discuss ideas for Saturday’s Shoot. This meeting will ensure that your experience with your team and your photographs turn out great.
Super Saturday, 10am-5pm – The Zen of Fashion and Model Photography (location: John Casablanca's)
Well, this is what you paid for, the pivotal moment, the day that you’ve been waiting for. This day will test all the parts of your photographic being. Team work, efficiency, creativity and your technical proficiency will all play key roles in the outcome of the day.
Be calm and shoot steady.
This is generally a pretty full day but in the ‘hurry up and wait’ sorta way. Expect to have some delays while your team is setting up & changes looks, but also expect to be shooting as much as possible when you can.
It is a good idea to bring a lunch or plan to make a quick dash, be in close contact with your team, (trade cel #’s to make sure everyone can be found) and plan your day out to maximize your time.
Presentation of Final Work, 2pm-5pm (ten days after shoot). Location: VPW studio, 1304 Seymour St
Bring some pop and popcorn, this class we’ll take a look at the results of your Super Saturday.
WORKSHOP REQUIRMENTS
Each photographer will need to produce the following (contact VPW if you anticipate that you may need assistance with any of the items below):
- 25 final images (touched up, cropped and corrected) on disk (CD or DVD)
- Each disk should contain two folders, one print, one web
- Print - 300dpi @ 8x10, 20.5mb.
- Web – 72 dpi 800 pixels on the longest side, approx 1-2mb.
- Each Student will need to hand in 5 copies of each disk.
- The disks need to be delivered to John Casablanca’s no later than 2 weeks from the shooting date.
- 3-5 8x10 prints to be shown during the final presentation. These images can be the same as the images on the disk. I expect to see these images as close to final print quality as possible. Touch them up, correct them, lay them out to look like an editorial… this is your chance to impress a magazine, make them good and make them stand out from the crowd. These should be printed on photo quality paper.
- Each participant will be required to sign a waiver. This gives John Casablanca’s and your team the rights to use these images for promotional purposes. Therefore, anyone from your team, JC & VPW can use these images in their portfolios & printed promotional materials, giving credit whenever possible and appropriate.
This requirements have been put in place to make this workshop as true to the 'real world' as possible. It is in your best interest to complete all of the above well before the deadline. Consider this Workshop to be like a 'job assignement', where you have to deliver a finished product to the client. By registering for this Workshop you agree to all of the above requirments. Please contact VPW if you anticipate that you may need assistance, as we can provide CD burning, image retouching and printing services for a nominal charge if arranged prior to this Workshop.

While comparable courses taught at other institutions
in this City take up to 18 students, VPW has strictly
limited this class size to 8 students only. This will
ensure that you will have more than twice as much time
to shoot and receive quality one-on-one instruction from
your instructor Syx. Make-up Artists and professional Models will be present
for the saturday shooting session, and you will be using state-of-the
lighting equipment supplied by Flashpont Rentals.
Please note: This Workshop will also be offered in August 2006!
