Practical Lighting on Location - A Hands-On Workshop:

"Just wanted to send a quick email in appreciation of the work you did with us on the Flash Workshop. I really did learn a lot and I think it was because you not only presented the technical part well but we also had the opportunity to apply it right after lunch. Like I said at the end I hardly knew that so much time had gone by. So thank you again"

"Thank you Marc for a great course today - in Practical Studio Lighting. I love the one-day format and the way you managed to cover so much in one day with a lot of clarity and depth. It was a very useful overview for me plus I had a lot of fun in the afternoon with the models."

"Finally a Workshop that uses equipment that is actually being used in the industry today. I loved the Beauty Dish and the Ringlite the most. Tons of great experience and lots of fun working with the models."

This long- awaited one day intensive workshop is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of the practical aspects of working on location with professional lighting equipment.

We will concentrate on introducing you to the many options available when working with location lighting. From basic camera flashes that cost less than $100 to using highly specialized professional equipment like Hensel and Profoto battery powered strobes, this workshop will leave you with all your questions answered.

We'll cover technical concepts such as the 'inverse square rule' or 'keyshifting' in a practical and easy to understand manner, so you can apply your knowledge right away when we start working with models in the afternoon.

Following the lecture in the AM, the afternoon will be spent with hands-on shooting excercises 'on location'. We'll be shooting outside as well within a short walk of our studio, and use a covered area depending on the weather. You'll be working with portable camera flashes (you are welcome to bring your own as well) and professional battery strobe equipment like the Profoto Pro 7B, using light modifiers such as beauty dishes, softboxes, umbrellas, bare bulb reflectors etc...

While outside we'll be creating images using, for example, the popular 'keyshifting' technique, as well as mixing color temperatures using coloured gels on the strobe equipment.

At VPW, we belief in using the highest quality equipment no other local school makes available for its students to use. In addition, you'll be working with professional models, so expect to take home great images suitable to add to your portfolio.

We will be using a digital camera for demonstrations but you will be expected to use your own camera for the location shoots. You may use either film or digital cameras in this workshop.

While other local photography schools take up to 18 students for similar classes, VPW class size is strictly limited to a maximum of 12 participants, so as to ensure maximum learning opportunities and utmost personal attention.
