This one day intensive workshop is designed to provide you with a strong understanding of natural light modification techniques for photographing people outdoors or in. We will start of in the studio using a single light to simulate both window light and direct sunlight, focusing on mastering the five main portrait lighting styles, reviewing metering techniques and learning the lighting controls. Working with models, we will also look at posing ideas, composition, environment and rapport. This class is a lot of fun with an emphasis on hands-on!

COURSE AGENDA
Workshop: Saturday, June 14th, 9am to 5pm
9am to 10:30am: Lecture – four characteristics of light and five lighting styles
10:30am to 10:45 Break
10:45am to Noon: Workshop – photographing in studio with a single light source and models
Noon to 1pm: Lunch and download digital images for discussion
1pm to 2pm: Review Images – discuss additional lighting challenges and five
portrait lighting styles
2:15pm – 4pm: Outdoor demo and hands on workshop with models
4:15pm – 5pm: Review and questions |

NOTES:
This course is designed for
students with Basic Photography Skills.
Suggested Equipment: 35mm SLR camera film or digital (compact cameras are not appropriate for this class), minimum of one lens (preferably with a longer focal length – ie. between 70mm to 120mm), camera manual, external flash (optional), flash manual, batteries. Film users should have one roll min. of 100iso and one roll min. of 400iso color or black & white negative film. |
