The Maine Coast - Fine Art Black and White Landscape and Long Exposure Workshop (October 17-22nd, 2008):
"Marc's skill and enthusiasm for teaching is only matched by his incredibly inspiring photographs. Thank you for a great workshop today!"
"The class was amazing and my photography is at a new level. To make matters worse, I can’t take classes anywhere else now since they just aren’t up to the standard set by Vancouver Photo Workshops; the competition is a waste of time by comparison."
Join us for this four-day, five-night journey down Maine’s historic coastline.
During this luxury travel workshop we will focus on beautiful vistas perfect for black-and-white capture.
This workshop is limited to only 10 participants as to ensure maximum personal attention and one-on-one instruction opportunities.
The Maine Coast is resplendent with rugged coastal formations and wild ocean scenery. With towering cliffs, giant granite masterpieces and crashing ocean waves it has all the drama that stunning black-and-white images require.
Throughout the trip Director of Vancouver Photo Workshops, Marc Koegel, will provide instruction on the highly sought after Fine Art B/W Long Exposure Landscape technique. He will shoot on location with you and offer lectures and critique sessions.
This workshop is designed for both Professional and Student Photographers.
Immediately preceding the Maine Coast: ‘Fine Art B/W Landscape And Long Exposure’ Workshop will be our Maine Coast: ‘Fall In Love With Color’ Workshop. We will stay in Bar Harbor shooting in different locations in Acadia National Park. This workshop is focused on color and in-camera creative techniques.
If you wish to participate in both workshops we will offer you a 10% discount on the final price.
What You Will See
We begin in Acadia National Park where the mountains meet the ocean. Here the stormy Atlantic crashes against sheer cliff faces and the first glimpse of the rising sun in the East can be seen from the top of Cadillac Mountain.
In Bar Harbor you will stay in luxury oceanfront accommodation in close proximity to the Park for major shooting opportunities.
After 2 days of exploring incredible Mount Desert Island you will then head to the ‘Jewel of the Maine Coast’ near Camden/Rockland. From there you will set off for various spectacular points along the rocky shoreline. Some destinations include Pemaquid Point, Long Cove Quarry and the Rockland Breakwater.

About the Instructor :
Your instructor Marc is a local award winning fine-art photographer. His images have been widely exhbited in Canada, the US and Europe. He has been working on his current series of fine-art black and white landscapes for over 4 years, refining his vision and techniques along the way.
Anyone who has ever tried to use long exposure techniques will quickly recognize that it is not only a serious technical challenge, but also an emotional and visionary one. Where and how do you find suitable subjects, and what approach do you use to photograph them. What techniques do you employ to turn everyday subjects into stunning pieces of photographic art?
When I am out shooting in the field, I often hear comments like this: Excuse me, sir, but what are you photographing right now? All I see is water, how can THAT be a an exiting photograph? These same people are blown away when I show them the final photograph. "...I would have just walked by, never thinking this scene could be transformed into something this moving and visually powerful."
This is exactly what you will learn in this workshop. Not just how to work the techniques, but also how to see. Even a master of technique will only produce weak photographs if his or her vision is not up to par.
Throughout the workshop, you will be taken through a journey how to generate beauitiful black and white landscape images. You'll refine your photographic vision and techniques and set out on the way to become a better photographer.
You will learn how to see in black and white!
