Vancouver Photo Workshops proudly announces a four day Photo Expedition, "Expedition to Tofino: Light, Craft, and the Landscape" with internationally acclaimed photographer, educator, and outspoken advocate of the “Digital Darkroom” Jean Miele to be held from August 26th to 29th, 2007. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand your visual horizons under the guidance of one of the great masters in contemporary photography. Take part and experience a renewed sense of energy, inspiration and vitality in your photography.

Each year over a million tourists visit the Tofino area making it one of British Columbia’s premier destinations.

Tofino is located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in the province of British Columbia, Canada. At Tofino's doorstep is the Clayoquot Sound region, a world UNESCO biosphere reserve. This area also boasts one of British Columbia's most prized nature reserves, Pacific Rim National Park. Tofino offers one of the best opportunities to experience BC's pristine wilderness first hand.

Just imagine the infinite number of photographic opportunities! This Workshop is very much focused to provide you with as much time in the field as possible. Expect to take at least twice as many pictures as you think you will!

Jean teaches Adobe Photoshop workshops and presents seminars for: Adobe Systems; Apple Computer; the International Center for Photography (ICP) in New York City; Fuji USA; American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP); Advertising Photographers of America (APA); The Norwegian Fotografiakademiet; and many others.

About the Artist: Jean Miele

Jean Miele is an American artist who uses photography to create “perfect” places. Inspired by a love of the black-and-white landscape tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries, he has been creating monochrome landscape photographs since the mid-1980s. His landscapes are solitary places, strong and quiet, intended to remind us that moments of perfection are possible – in photography, and in our lives.

Miele’s black-and-white prints are in numerous private collections and have been exhibited in galleries from New York to Norway, including a solo exhibition at the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, Georgia entitled “Classical Landscape Photography and the Digital Darkroom” - which was seen by more than 100,000 viewers.

EXPEDITION TO TOFINO: LIGHT, CRAFT, AND THE LANDSCAPE
August 26-29, 2007

Ever feel like something’s missing from your landscape pictures?
Ever wonder what the difference is between a great landscape photograph and one that’s just okay?
Ever wonder what to do about those “almost” pictures?
(You know, the shots you were excited about taking, but not so excited about when you looked at them later.)

This four-day photo expedition to the rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island will help bring your landscape
photography to the next level. Photographer Jean Miele will teach you how to make better choices — both
behind the camera, and in front of the computer — so you can make fewer “almost” pictures and more great
ones.

If you are passionate about landscape photography and Adobe Photoshop, this is a rare opportunity to:

- Make new pictures, with professional advice, coaching, and encouragement
- Spend time with people who share your passion, and speak your language
- Get answers to your tough questions
- Share your work
- Take your craft to the next level!

This workshop focuses on your vision as a photographer, and helping you hone your craft in the age of digital
photography. Most of our time will be spent in the field: shooting, “chimping,” and learning. Additional time will
be designated for portfolio reviews, discussions, Q&A sessions, and – of course – Photoshop “digital darkroom”
work.

Workshop size is limited to ensure every student’s experience includes custom-tailored one-on-one instruction.
Participants will complete the course with new ideas and techniques for making stronger pictures and a new
perspective on how to take their own work to the next level.

This expedition is offered in conjunction with Jean Miele’s 5-day:
“Photoshop For Black & White: The Next Level,” scheduled for August 20-24, 2007.

Join us for either or both of these exciting workshops!
- Attend one workshop and let us help you take your work to the next level.
- Attend both and enjoy a 9-day intensive photo adventure
- Packed with valuable information you can use NOW, both in the lab and in the field!

Skill Level: This course is not for beginners. A working knowledge of yourv camera and its basic operation, as well as basic Photoshop knowledge is essential.
