About
the Artist: David Julian
David Julian holds a BFA from Pratt Institute, and is a widely published photographer, photo-illustrator and mixed-media fine artist. He creates art for nationwide corporate clients, and is in many private and institutional collections.
His images and writings are published in Digital PhotoPro, PRINT, Double Exposure, Archive, PhotoMedia, PCPhoto, Zoom, American Photographer and others. David’s work and teaching methods seamlessly blend technical processes with pure artistic vision and a humorous dose of mad science. With his renown gift of patience and intuition, he enjoys helping others past hurdles to develop and reach their creative goals.
When not immersed in his studio filled with vintage devices, curiosities and other collections, he travels for renewed inspiration, kayaks and teaches creative workshops in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Workshop course decription provided by David Julian
himself:
This workshop is for all photographers and artists who want to experiment freely and introduce more personal expression into their images.
The strength of digital photography is the speed with which we can readily explore and combine the creative heart and imagination of the artist. To inspire the class from the start, we will examine many darkroom and digital alternative processes, montages, vintage photographs and specialty camera images, learning how they imbue artworks with a special aesthetic. Informed by this marriage of art and science as well as our group reviews and discussions, we will transform your existing images and create new ones from our shooting trip, scanned materials and spells of “beautiful invention”.
Through hands-on, carefully-paced demonstrations of Photoshop’s most powerful tools, students will learn my workflows for greater creative control without technical frustration. Be prepared to stretch, grow, experiment, learn, interact, have (lots of) fun and get very inspired! You’ll leave with new friends, new ideas, several new images and renewed excitement for your art that will last well beyond your workshop week. A course CD and printed workflow booklet are provided.
For six years running, this completely unique workshop has won rave reviews from artists at all levels, and has directly lead to gallery shows and book projects.
Participants must have at least basic to intermediate Photoshop knowledge. A familiarity with the layer and channel palettes and some selection methods will prepare you for our week. Contact me directly for any related queries.
