"Visual Photographic Narratives in the 21st Century "

May 4th - 7th, 2007

Vancouver Photo Workshops proudly announces a four day workshop, "Visual Photographic Narratives in the 21st Century" with internationally acclaimed photographer Carlan Tapp to be held from May 4th - 7th, 2007. Set in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand your visual horizons under the guidance of one of the great masters in contemporary photography. Take part and experience a renewed sense of energy, inspiration and vitality in your photography.

VPW is very proud to have the opportunity to bring Carlan Tapp to Vancouver for what will be his first 2 Workshops in our beautiful City. This workshop is an unparalleled opportunity for the Pacific Northwest photographer who has been interested in the many high caliber photography workshops on the east coast, but found the cost for travel and accommodation to be prohibitive. Since the workshop is being held at Vancouver Photo Workshops in Vancouver, B.C. our American participants will find that the added bonus of exchange rates will make this a real treat resulting in excess of 14% (at time of this writing) off all your expenses in Canada.

Workshop course decription provided by Carlan Tapp:

Good photographs are a complex record of an exchange between photographer and subject.
The single image has traditionally given the viewer access to an experience and evoked and widened feelings of a subject. Today, new media opens exciting opportunities for the photographer to take the viewer someplace they did not expect to go. The World Wide Web offers photographers a place to create compelling viewer experiences.

This four-day workshop explores these exciting new media opportunities.

The telling of a story using photographs is not new.  The evolution of digital new media has opened exciting pathways for the photographer desiring to share a narrative, family vacation, personal story, or a documentary project.  This workshop is for the photographer desiring to use these new media techniques and technologies to share their story.

We begin by defining how to tell a story with photographs.  How do we conceptualize a feeling, place, or thing into photographs?  From concept we move to creating the images, editing, and sequencing the story.
Based on a story using still images we consider and learn to create audio narrative to enhance our still images.  We explore combining our still image story with audio for a compelling digital presentation.
As photographers and storytellers we see how we are capable of adapting ourselves to the technological evolution of the world and to take advantage of these exciting new tools.
