Internationally Acclaimed Photographer

Dan Burkholder

In an exclusive, intimate 4 Day Workshop:

"The Art of Digital -

Exquisite Digital Control from Capture to Print"

November 13th to 16th, 2005

Vancouver Photo Workshops proudly announces a four day workshop,"The Art of Digital - Exquisite Digital Control from Capture to Print" with internationally acclaimed photographer Dan Burkholder to be held from November 13th to 16th, 2005. Set in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, this workshop is designed especially for real photographers.

This workshop takes you from shutter release to final print. With fine art photographer Dan Burkholder as your guide, you’ll explore the power of Photoshop CS2 and express your final print as classic handmade prints or as archival, pigmented ink prints.

The journey from classic photography to digital is fun and exciting in this four-day hands-on workshop. Bring your problem images and learn which digital tools are best (and which are nerdy-time-wasters) to get the results you crave. We’ll even take digital negatives into the darkroom to print in silver gelatin. And if inkjet printing is your goal, we’ll cover the bases in the pigmented ink world, too.

About the Artist:

Dan Burkholder was one of the first photographic artists to embrace digital technology in the early 1990’s. True to his love of the traditional photograph, Dan uses digital technology to build images that still look and feel like real photographs, not like something from a graphic designer’s portfolio. Melding his unique vision with mastery of both the wet and digital darkrooms, his platinum prints are now included in many museum and private collections.

Originating the digital-negative process in 1992, Burkholder has helped open doors for all black and white photographers interested in moving into the new electronic technologies. His award-winning book, Making Digital Negatives for Contact Printing, is regarded as the most authoritative work in the field.

Dan has taught classes and workshops at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the lnternational Center of Photography in New York, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego and others. Active with the Texas Photographic Society for many years, he is currently serving on the Advisory Board for this organization.

Here's what Dan will teach you over the 4 day Workshop:

• Learn Dan’s gallery-tested methods for producing prints with glowing highlights, seductive midtones and shadows you can fall into.

• For those wishing to make handmade, wet-darkroom prints, learn from the man who wrote the book on Making Digital Negatives for Contact Printing.

• Learn the meat and potatoes techniques for capturing and manipulating your images to get prints that match your imagination.

• Delve into the rich underbelly of Adobe Camera Raw and Bridge to both save time and optimize your image quality.

• Learn the parts of Color Management you actually need, from a photographer who never sinks into digi-geek-speak.

• Learn how digital cameras compare so you can make the best purchasing decisions.

• Discover which additional software is worth your money and time.

Other Photoshop workshops might teach you the basics, but Dan combines decades of classic photographic experience with a fine art aesthetic to help you learn the new digital craft with pixels at your command and a smile on your face.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop computer (must have Adobe Photoshop CS2 software) to work during the workshop. If you do not have access to a personal computer, please contact our office so that we can provide you with recommendations on obtaining one for the workshop.

In addition,Tricera imaging, Vancouver's premier Epson dealer and service provider, will provide us with a Epson 2400 and a variety of Epson media.
