Vancouver Photo Workshops proudly announces a four day workshop, "Perception, Light, Gesture, and Color" with internationally acclaimed photographer Jay Maisel to be held from may 19th to 23rd, 2008. Set in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand your visual horizons under the guidance of one of the great masters in contemporary photography. Take part and experience a renewed sense of energy, inspiration and vitality in your photography.

Mr. Maisel has been leading Workshops for decades inspriring many emerging as well as established photographers worldwide. Mr. Maisel teaches regularly at established US institutions such as Santa Fee Workshops, The Maine Photographic Workshops, Andersen Ranch Arts Center Workshops as well as in New York City. He has taught and lectured all over the United States, Europe, Australia as well as New Zealand.

Motivated by the success of Mr. Maisel's Workshop in 2006 and 2007, VPW is very proud to have the opportunity to bring Mr. Maisel back to Vancouver for 2008.

This workshop is an unparalleled opportunity for the Pacific Northwest photographer who has been interested in the many high caliber photography workshops on the east coast, but found the cost for travel and accommodation to be prohibitive.

About the Artist: Jay Maisel

Photographer Jay Maisel's career spans 40 years.

His name has become synonymous with vibrant color photography that uses light and gesture to create countless unforgettable images for advertising, editorial and corporate communications.

In addition, his pictures appear in books and art collections. Included among his many awards for excellence are the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame, American Society of Media Photographers' Photographer of the Year Award and the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award.

A graduate of Cooper Union and Yale University, Jay continues his education by teaching younger photographers at workshops, seminars and lectures around the world.

Workshop course decription provided by Jay Maisel himself:

This is a challenging class.

Deceptively simple at first, with levels of complexity that will unfold over the week.

This is a class which will fundamentally change the way you see. It has nothing to do with technical sophistication or complicated equipment.

This is a class about getting inspired, learning new things, working through burnout, and getting back to the part of photography that was fun and attracted you in the first place: looking and seeing.

You will get assignments, which you will not have enough time to shoot. We won’t have enough time to edit, critique, talk, or sleep.

But you will leave with an urge to go out and shoot. And hopefully you will say what many ex-students say (I have no idea why), “This class changed the way I see and/or changed my life”.
