The BIZ : Usage, Infringement and You
While zipping through Rob Galbraith’s A Photo Editor blog (get to know it, seriously) one of the posts jumped out as something I had to share. The post relates an example of infringement, and it’s a great little read with regard to the value of photography, from a commercial standpoint. Read it here:
The only way to sell something (image licenses, for instance) is to believe in the product and it’s worth to the client. If you don’t believe/understand your value to the client you’re leaving money on the table. Period.
I could go on about this, and often do. For the full-on when/where/why/how about intellectual property (that’s your photos), usage, licensing and negotiating, register for my business seminar! Scheduled to go off again early in May, 2012.
Do it.

That was a great article Dan.
One of my students had an image of theirs taken and slapped with someone else’s copyright & logo. The photo is being used to promote this other photographers work.
People NEED to read this article.
People NEED to understand usage as well as fees.
Thanks for the post, I’ll be sending people to this post a lot!
Had several photos of mine stolen once and used on a corporate website in banners…..of course without permission. Fortunately we were able to resolve the matter and i got paid for these. Since then i always watermark my photos before uploading them online.
